Uber is offering a bumper off this weekend with free rides of $20 of less to select customers across 272 pre-defined locations across the United States and Canada. The LGBT locations are in 41 cities across North America in a showing of solidarity after the terrorist attack on an LGBT nightclub in Orlando last weekend, which claimed 49 lives.
“To celebrate life and love in all its forms, this weekend (Friday, June 17 to Monday, June 20) we’ll be offering free rides to and from places that are important to the history and culture of local LGBT communities in cities across the U.S. and Canada,” the company posted on its website this week.
Interestingly, Orlando is not on the list despite being the location of the mass shooting. Uber says the city is still in mourning and funerals for victims are being held this week and the promotion will not be run out of respect. Families of the victims can get free rides however, but using a privately sent promotional code.
The promotion around the country will allow passengers to take two free journeys under $20 to selected LGBT locations, with the code automatically added when a location is chosen. Both Ottawa and Toronto are among the location cities:
