How It Works
Intact Insurance launched a new product for the ridesharing car insurance in Ontario during July, 2016. This policy gives Uber drivers an opportunity to operate in the province with legal coverage and remain protected when picking up passengers for a ridesharing company. The coverage is both easy and flexible, giving Uber drivers a long term fix ridesharing car insurance solution in Ontario.
The commercial insurance package offered by Intact covers a ridesharing driver and passengers from the moment they activate the app to accept a fare to the moment they drop off the passenger. For all other times, the policyholder will continue to be covered under the normal terms of their personal auto insurance policy.
Intact Insurance has broken its coverage down into four easy to understand phases:
Under a personal policy, Intact Insurance has adapted its underwriting rules to allow a personal coverage product to allow Uber ridesharing car insurance in Ontario. No additional cost is applied to a personal policy when a customer is using their vehicle for personal use under the conditions of Phase 0.
The commercial policy addition allows any driver, no matter their personal policy auto insurance provider, to access Intact’s Uber insurance coverage. This protection lasts from the time a fare is accepted (Phase 1) to when a passenger is collected (Phase 2) and the transported and dropped off (Phase 3).
Coverage terms for the Intact Insurance Uber protection are:
- $1 million third party liability for Phase 1
- $2 million third party liability for Phase 2 and Phase 3
- Standard Accident Benefits for Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3.
- Comprehensive and Collision coverage with $1,000 deductible payable by drivers for Phases 1 through 3.
